Item Details

Description

Vintage Custom Maidana Goucho style Hat, marked "Somberos Maidana Rivadavia 1923 Buenos Aires Argentina". Black felt, braided felt band with brass button; interior is satin lined with leather tafiletes. Brown leather chin strap. Wide gently curved brim, low crown. mid century. In original box, marked model 'Joe'. This fourth generation hatmakers was founded in 1910 and uses the artisan Borsalino method of steam and compression to mold their traditional hare-felt gaucho hats, with production done in-house. Maidana has been serving the Estancieros (farm owners) across Argentina for decades. Theyâ€™ve sold over 2 million of their trademark Corazon de Potro hat (Heart of Foal) which looks equally stylish worn in the city as in the heart of the Pampas. Approx.
Measurements: 3.125 in brim; 15 in. front to back; 13.75 in. left to right. Crown is 3.5 in. height. Interior crown measures 7.875 in. front to back x 6.375 in. left to right; 22.5 in. inside circumference at the bottom rim of bowl (there is no measurement on the hat; we recommend you use a hat you own to compare measurements, or take measurements of your head.).
