Steve McCallum (American, b. 1951). "Below-Up" - Archival digital inkjet color print. Edition 6/30. 2002. Title and edition handwritten in pencil on lower left (in margin). Signed and dated on lower right (in margin). A mesmerizing abstract composition by Steve McCallum with the clever title "Below-Up". The piece is created in McCallum's signature robust style that incorporates both Hard-Edge as well as Abstract Expressionist influences and has been linked to the likes of De Kooning and Stuart Davis. Despite these influences, McCallum's Postmodern style is unique, presenting his own signature spin on Non-Objective art. Size: sheet measures 27" W x 24" H (68.6 cm x 61 cm); image 24" W x 20" H (61 cm x 50.8 cm)
McCallum is represented by Allan Stone Projects. Stone is among the leading authorities on Abstract Expressionism, the New York dealer for Wayne Thiebaud for over forty years, as well as a respected collector of Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Arshile Gorky, Joseph Cornell, John Graham and John Chamberlain. In addition to modern and contemporary art, the Allan Stone Collection includes tribal and folk art, Americana as well as select decorative arts and industrial design.
Provenance: Ex-old private New England collection, acquired in the 1970s
