1823-1900
Depicts a heard of sheep in a clearing surrounded by distant mountain ranges and dense forest. Waters is well known for her folk art portraits as well as her paintings of animals, she was self taught but earned her tuition at a female seminary school by producing natural history works for one of her instructors. Later when Waters married her husband William Waters, he encouraged her to continue painting. She became an itinerant painter of still lives, animals, and portraits with sheep becoming one of her favorite subjects. Waters has works in the collections of the New York State Historical Association, Wiltshire College, Newark Museum, Cortland County Historical Society, and the Arnot Art Museum.
