Titled "Chasse à la Perdrix," depicts two hunting dogs cornering a partridge in tall grass. Mene was taught sculpture and foundry work early on by his father and was encouraged by artist Rene Compaire and influenced by Edwin Landseer and Carle Vernet. Mene's early studies were made at the "Jardin des Plantes" in Paris where he developed a great skill for sculpting animals. In 1838 Mene first exhibited at the Paris Salon and then continually exhibited until his death.
