Description
Chinese gilt bronze Quan Yin depicted seated upon a naturalistic base in partial Padmasana (Lotus) position, holding a male child, her hands in karana mudra, with elongated ears; wearing a crown with central figure, veil, a robe, and necklace; a vase at her right and a bag or book to her left; all resting upon a tiered base with bracket feet and shaped skirt. Blue/lapiz residue to base as well a traces of polychrome paint to crown, robe, and base. 16 3/8 H x 7 1/2" W x 5" D. 19th century or earlier. Provenance: Collection of Thomas M. Alexander, Greeneville, TN, former U.S. Army Captain Airborne/Special Forces during the Late 1960s/Early 1970s in Vietnam. He became a Central Intelligence Agency Field Officer in Southeast Asia, beginning in the Early 1970s until his retirement in 1994.

Condition
Overall good condition with surface oxidation and losses to gilt; two small losses in base, largest measuring 5/8" x 3/8"; area of loss to bronze on bag/book, measuring 3/4" x 3/8".
