Description
Pair of 18th century Venetian Lacca Povera or Povera Lacquer landscape scenes in carved frames with blackamoor masks, each depicting romanticized Classical ruins or Capriccio with various figures including shepherds, courtiers, a mother with her children, and a rider on horseback, with hand painted highlights. One panel initialed "G B" and dated 1742, beneath a cipher or cartouche on the tower of a central building. Housed in carved shell and acanthus leaf gilt wood frames surmounted by parcel gilt and polychrome Blackamoor mask carvings. Sight: 33" W x 24 3/4" H. Framed: 42" W x 35 1/2" H. Note: This pair of panels was part of a larger set of 4 panels sold at Christie's on November 11, 1999, Lot #654.

Condition
Overall good condition with some wood shrinkage to both panels, light overall grime and a few minor areas of paint exfoliation. Both frames with scattered old repairs to carved elements and some surface flakes.
