Arthur Parton (New York/Pennsylvania/United Kingdom, 1842-1914) impressionistic oil on canvas painting depicting cherry trees blossoming in a spring landscape setting. Signed "Arthur Parton" lower left. Housed in a giltwood frame with a lamb's tongue running pattern. Sight: 27 3/8" H x 35 3/4" W. Framed: 34" H x 42 1/4" W. Biography: Arthur Parton was born in Hudson, New York and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under William Trost Richards, who continued to influence Parton's work throughout his career. He first exhibited in 1862 in Philadelphia and later exhibited regularly at the National Academy of Design in New York City and at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition in 1876. He was known as a Hudson River School painter though he also painted landscape scenes of England and Scotland.

Condition
Overall good condition with craquelure, scattered areas of paint loss, largest 1/2", primarily to edges of canvas. One 6" area of inpainting intented to cover a "V" shaped surface scratch, lower left, two areas of inpainting, largest 2", top right edge of canvas. Frame with minor abrasions.
