Description
Seven (7) Bohemian crystal items, including decanters and bowls in cranberry cut to clear and cobalt glass. 1st item: Cranberry cut to clear glass decanter with faceted base and shoulder, frosted glass foliate designs to body, faceted ring at neck, flared rim, and faceted mushroom-shaped stopper with frosted foliate design. 10 1/8" H x 3 3/4" dia. 2nd item: Small cranberry cut to clear glass decanter with frosted landscape scenes, hatching, and foliate designs to body, ring at shoulder, honeycomb faceted neck, flared rim, and faceted flared stopper with frosted scrolling. Labeled 14 to underside of stopper and base. 7 5/8" H x 3 1/2" dia. 3rd item: Cranberry cut to clear glass vase with frosted landscape scenes, hatching, and foliate designs. 5 1/2" H x 2" dia. 4th & 5th items: Pair (2) of cobalt glass decanters with faceted bases, shoulders, and necks having ring at rim and hexagonally faceted stoppers. Numbered to rim and underside of stopper, 25 and 43. 12 5/8" H x 4" dia. 6th & 7th items: Pair (2) of cobalt glass faceted oval bowls with gilt rims and mythological landscape scenes to body. 2 3/4" H x 10 1/8" W x 4 7/8" D. All items late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
