54 Pieces Assorted Silver Flatware, including Northern coin silver and English sterling silver. 1st-35th items: 36 American coin silver items, including 12 teaspoons with shell handles marked for Colton and Collins (working New York, NY 1825-35); 5 teaspoons marked for Boyd and Mulford (working Albany, NY 1832-42); 5 teaspoons marked for Jabez Gorham and Son (working Providence, RI circa 1841-50); 2 teaspoons marked for Harris and Wilcox (working Troy, NY 1847-53); 1 teaspoon marked for Joseph T. Rice (working Albany, NY, 1813-50); 1 teaspoon marked for Palmer and Bachelder (working Boston, MA 1850); 2 teaspoons and 1 tablespoon marked for Hotchkiss and Schreuder (working Palmyra, NY 1825-49, Syracuse, NY 1850-71); 1 teaspoon marked for Henry Raymond (working Albany, NY 1833-40); 1 salt spoon marked for David Hotchkiss (working Palmyra, NY 1825-40); 1 master butter knife and 1 master salt spoon, marked for Duhme and Company (working Cincinnati, OH 1844-96); and 3 teaspoons with illegible marks. 36th-39th items: 4 British sterling silver pieces, including 2 George IV English tablespoons with heraldic crests engraved to handles, marked for William Eaton, London, 1831, and 2 assorted teaspoons with lion passant and additional illegible marks. 40th-53rd items: 14 assorted sterling silver pieces, including 1 tablespoon marked for Porter Blanchard (working Gardner, MA ca. 1915-23; Burbank, Pacoima, and Calabasas, CA 1923-93); 1 dinner fork marked for George W. Webb (working Baltimore, MD 1830-90); 1 teaspoon and 2 salt spoons, unidentified makers; and 9 assorted sterling silver demitasse spoons, including 2 Spanish demitasse spoons with Don Quixote handles and 1 Dutch demitasse spoon with a tulip handle. Most monogrammed or inscribed. Ranging in size from 3 3/4" to 10" L. Combined weight coin silver: 19.67 total troy ounces. Combined weight sterling silver: 17.44 total troy ounces. Provenance: The collection of Gary Glesser of Loudon, Tennessee, by descent from his grandparents, Captain Hoyt and Rachel Holton of Toledo, Ohio. Hoyt Holton became, at age 17, the youngest captain of a Great Lakes Freighter. In the 1960s, Captain Holton participated in a 26-day Admiral Byrd Society trip replicating the explorer's famous transpolar expedition, during which he met the Pope and Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev. Many items in the collection were brought back as souvenirs from that journey and other frequent voyages.
