Peter Blos (German-American, 1903-1986), Southwestern Cubist Landscape
oil on board, signed and dated 1939 to lower left, presented in a gilt frame.
Board size 15 x 19 3/4 in.; Frame dimensions 20 1/4 x 25 in.
Peter Blos was born in Munich, Germany. The son of a portrait artist, Carl Blos, he studied in Munich and Paris. In 1931, he and his wife emigrated to the United States. They settled in California and Blos made a living as an illustrator for pulp fiction covers. However, his true passion was chronicling the Hopi and Navajo Indians and the expansive Southwest landscapes as illustrated in this painting.
