PROVENANCE:
From the Collections of Franklin Wood (1924-2019) Cartersville, GA. Franklin was born in a small farmhouse near White GA in 1924. After spending his early childhood on the family farm the family moved to the City of Cartersville where he attended school graduating in 1942. Franklin entered the Navy as a cadet aviator. On March 3, 1943, John was commissioned an Ensign and received his Wings of Gold, becoming one of the Navy's youngest naval aviators. In 1947, Franklin was retired from the Navy. He was a civilian flight instructor, supervisor and squadron commander in the Primary Training Squadron Flying Training Air Force. He met his wife Ying Su while she was attending flight training safety courses. Ying Su came from a prominent family in China. Her family blessed her marriage with numerous pieces of porcelains and Jade. The items in this sale are from her collection.

Chinese Ming Dynasty Period Blue & white Figurines Floral Motif Porcelain Meiping Jar. The porcelain shaped into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, with emerging slight flaring ring mouth rim, raised on round foot base, with slight concave. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the blue fine color, depicted of eight immortals in many pursuit standing above ruyi clouds surrounded with cumulus clouds, flowers blooms, and flaming vapors. Variegates floral interspersed foliage decorated on the mid belly and the neck. Flying Qilin beast through cumulus clouds, flaming vapors above thrashing Lishui waves on the foot rim. Each section mark off and enclosed with double fine blue rings lines. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.

Mark on base, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Made In The Years of Wanli Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
