Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $300**

Europe, Germany, ca. 1914 to 1918 CE. A fine black hat of a German diplomat from World War I boasting a black animal fur crown with a large brim on both sides each lined with beige bird feathers. Worn cocked to the side of the head with one brim up and the other down, each brim displays olive-hued cloth on top and black velvet on its underside. The brim which is worn down is adorned with a lovely braided rope of gold fabric further embellished with a lustrous metal button and two black bows. The interior of the hat is embroidered with the name "v. Ruxleben", perhaps referring to the noble family who ruled a territory in Thuringia, Germany. In 1896, Hans Otto Ruxleben was elevated to the status of Freiherr by the princes of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. Size: 17.375" L x 12.5" W x 4.25" H (44.1 cm x 31.8 cm x 10.8 cm)
