Description
Original World War II era Silent Flame Table Lighter, manufactured by Parker of London, Ltd. in New York (USA) circa 1935 to 1944. Also marketed as the "Aphrodite." Design patented in 1935 as an electric cigar lighter "of the type wherein a wick is ignited through the heat of an electrical resistance element." Very popular during the Art Deco period. Chromium metal nude figural ostrich feather fan dancer, inspired by Sally Rand (1904-1979). Base made of dark brown Bakelite. Metal and Bakelite lighter insert with original wick. The same model was also marketed by Dunhill. Original cardboard manufacturer plate to underside.
