Description
The lot features a set of Indian hide and hard soled beaded moccasins from the Crow Apsaalooke Native American Indians of Montana dating to circa 1890-1900’s. The set shows an Indian tanned buckskin hide top with parfleche rawhide hard sole bases having 1800’s glass trade seed cen bead period correct beadwork being sinew sewn. The set shows a scalloped edge fold over heal with original integral hide tongue and original hide tie straps. The beadwork is a wonderful whimsical floral pattern in true 19th Century Crow styling with colors of Cheyenne pink, greasy blue, semi-transparent blue, semi-transparent red, medium green, semi-transparent yellow, faceted metal, and semi-transparent dark green. The set shows slight bead loss, a slightly stiffening but yet still supple soft hide top and hard soles showing no visible cracks. Provenance: From a large Iowa private collection of weapons and Native American beadwork. Each measures approximately 10”L by 3 7/8”W by 5.5”H.
