Description
Southeastern Pennsylvania, possibly Dauphin County. Provenance: This chest illustrated in Fabian, Monroe "The Pennsylvania German Decorated Chest" (1978). Three related chests sold at Christie's: Oct. 23, 1993 (Lot 59); Jun. 15, 1999 (Lot 169); and Jan. 20, 2000 (Lot 87). This chest in softwood with faux-grain painted ground, black painted bracket feet and borders, and geometric panels on lid and front painted in blue with white flower, star, and cross motifs. Central front panel dated 1816, with owner's name Madlena Deynier. Dimensions: H 20" x W 46" x D 18" Condition: Chest is structurally sound, showing antique patina and surface distress consistent with age.

All the items in this auction remain at our gallery location in Norwalk, CT for pickup. Preview is by appointment, Monday-Friday, 9:30-4:30. Items must be picked up in the time frame of Wednesday, January 19th - Friday, January 28th, 9am-5pm, WEEKDAYS.
