Description
The thin bowl is painted with roses, butterflies, bats, and fruit. The designs are accented with gilding. The bottom has a shallow raised, unglazed foot with a glazed base. The mouth rim edge is painted with iron red and gilding.
Provenance: From the Ellis Family collection. Most of the collection was acquired by Dr Robert Hale Ellis of Portland, Oregon during his regular visits to China and Japan as a physician during the first quarter of the 20th Century.
The mark MADE IN CHINA is stamped on the base.
MEASUREMENTS
8 ½” (21.6 cm) diameter x 1 ¾” (4.4 cm) tall. Weighs 11.6 oz (325 g)
CONDITION
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There is a tiny rough spot on the foot. There is some gilding wear on the mouth rim and a couple of tiny glaze chips. There are kiln flaws, such as spot, and smudges on the underside.
A colorful plate to add to a collection or decorate with.
