Attributed to Gilbert Wheat, it does not have a COA. Medium: mixed media. 26 x 20 inches. Title: Tin Roof Barn, painting: 24 x 18 inches, Provenance: private owner.
Biography: 1927 - 2010. Gil Wheat, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 13, 2010. He was born in San Francisco on May 19, 1927, to Gilbert Sr. and Gertrude Wheat.He joined the Navy at the age of 16 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant while serving in Korea. After leaving the military, he continued his love of the sea, sailing in the South Pacific, the Atlantic and the Caribbean. He studied at Stanford, Princeton and Yale, earning a masterâ€â„¢s in arts and education, and he taught art and art history at the College of Marin for 23 years.On March 20, 1965, he married the love of his life, Helen Erpenbeck. They lived in Marin before moving to Napa in 1977, where they raised their two sons.Gil demonstrated his artistic ability in carpentry, painting and drawing. His artwork has appeared in shows all over California, including at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. He was an amazing man of deep faith and a fabulous sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.
