Carte de visite photograph of a full standing view of Private Alfred Stratton of the 147th New York Infantry wearing 9-button jacket with sleeves folded and pinned showing that he has lost both of his arms. Image presents back/frontmark of Fredericks & Co., 5th Ave., New York City. Carte image presents good tones with some slight edge bumping to carte. Alfred Stratton at the age of 18, enlisted at Ellicott, NY to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. G, 147th New York Infantry on August 19, 1863. He was wounded in action at Petersburg, Virginia losing both arms from solid cannon shot on June 18th of 1864. He received a promotion to 1st Sergeant for humanitarian reasons to maximize his pension and was discharged on September 27, 1864 for disability.
