Jan Mudroch (Slovakian, 1909-1968) watercolor painting on paper, Nude Reclining. Signed lower right. Framed. The Provenance: Trinity International Auctions, Avon, CT, United States, December 12, 2020, lot 8. Jan Mudroch was the first principal of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He was a co-founder of a group that published surrealist magazines and anthologies. In his works, he mainly focused on still life paintings and often made use of metaphors and symbols. During the war period, he created works that strongly expressed misery. He turned towards Poetic Realism after the Second World War. He was awarded the title of Artist of Outstanding Merit of Slovakia in 1963 and posthumously the title of National Artist of Slovakia in 1968. One of a kind artwork.
