Description
A framed Chinese silk embroidery dating from the 19th century. The orange-ground panel features blue thread flowers, fruit, scholarly objects, and auspicious objects. The stitching itself features the technique known as the forbidden stitch.
Dimensions are: 16 inches tall X 11 1/4 inches wide, 40.6 cm X 28.6 cm, while the frame measures 26 1/4 inches tall X 20 inches wide, 66.7 cm X 50.8 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There is staining as well as pulled and worn threads.
Provenance: From a private collection in Lorton, Virginia. The collector has been restoring antiques for over 50 years in the Washington, D.C. area.
