Description
**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. An elegant glass bottle presenting with a circular concave base and bulbous body that dramatically tapers to a long slender neck and flared rim. A gorgeous silvery iridescence adorns the exterior, while one side of the interior is coated in a shimmering iridescent hue of dark indigo; lovely results of its remarkable age. This exquisite artifact was likely used to store sweet and floral oils for a noble lady's toilette. Size: 2.5" in diameter x 6.125" H (6.4 cm x 15.6 cm)

Provenance: private Virginia, USA collection, collected pre-1970 in Turkey.

#158450
Condition
Earthen encrustations and mineral deposits. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age. Pontil mark on underside of base. A pontil scar or mark indicates that a vessel was free-blown, while the absence of such a mark suggests that the work was either mold-blown or that the mark was intentionally smoothed away or wore away over time. Some stable fissures in glass, otherwise intact and with attractive iridescence.
