Description

EARLY 19TH C MIILITIA OFFICERS CHAPEAU DE BRAS A officer's Chapeau de Bras, most likely European manufacture for American militia. Composed on pressed felt, stiffened considerably over time, of bicorn form with folded brims. Smaller side is embellished with four silver bullion spring strands which drape 8" from a blue and black fan cockade, and extend to the rim. A bow is fixed to the edge of the larger fold, from which a ribbon leads down. The leather sweatband is cracked and missing in some areas, above which is a linen liner with a drawstring. There is mothing and soiling to felt, as well as areas where the felt is worn down with age. , Size: 13" tall, 15" long, 7 1/2" wide, Est. 1000-2000, Lot 30732
