Description
1769 Notre Dame de Liesse Knights Hospitaller Sultan of Egypt Black Virgin

Etienne Villettes “History of the Miracles of Notre Dame de Liesse” is a rare 18th-century account of the famed Laon, France cathedral and the cult of the Black Virgin. More commonly known as Our Lady of Joy, the Notre-Dame de Liesse is surrounded by legends, most famously the iconic statue is thought to have been brought to France by three Knights Hospitaller. The cathedral was built by Princess Ismeria, daughter of the Sultan of Egypt, who was connected with those same three knights of Jerusalem.
