Printed title page + 16 leaves, printed on one side only. Each leaf with a hand-colored engraving, verse below. Printed advertisement leaf at rear. 18x11 cm (7x4¼") original printed wrappers.
First published in 1821. One of the rarest of the publisher's 'Cabinet' series and thought to be the first printed book of Limericks. "There came an Old Woman from France, Who taught grown up Children to dance, But they were so stiff, She sent them home in a miff; This sprightly Old Woman from France."
Condition
Some soiling, staining and rubbing to wrappers, a few words acknowledging the skill of the artist replenished, spine repaired with cloth tape affecting a few letters in title and imprint; soiling and corner wear within, title leaf and first plate with stitched thread repairs; good to very good.
