A carved wooden zoomorphic mask of a Ngulu or Pig with textile adornment and embellished with Copper earrings. The Chokwe animal masquerades, which date back to the colonial period, are performed to dramatize wild or untamed, foolish and absurd behaviors. The â€œpoor behaviors” contrast with the virtues of elegant and beautiful female masks. The mask measures 9.5 x 6 inches ( the textiles hang down 18 inches) a metal display stand can also be included for an additional $50.00. Provenance: The Robert Banks collection, Maryland.
