Queen Ann country tea table with shaped top having cut corners that chamfers to edges, deeply formed skirt, and slightly splayed legs. The top of table with a hand painted composition of 3 stars over a spread wing eagle with American shield over banner - the artwork is faded and worn, but still visible. Condition - use wear and burn marks in top, otherwise all original and in very good structural condition. Measures 31"W x 22"D x 26 3/4"H. Early 18th century. Provenance: This item was handed down to consignor's wife from either the Stotesbury family of Philadelphia - builder and part owner of JP Morgan in the 19th/20th century, or the Minturn families of NY - the consignor's wife's great great uncle was Col. Robert Shaw (the film "Glory") and her great great grandmother was Susanna Shaw Minturn (1839 - 1926) who gifted the land to NY that became part of Central Park. The Minturn family also owned the clipper ship "The Flying Cloud" and were leading merchants in NY City in the 19th/20th centuries.
