Boys See-Sawing above Swinging Bird. Unknown American Manufacturer. Mid 1880's - 11" Wide x 12" Tall. This represents one of the most curious and unusual early tin toys that we have ever seen. Once again, we find a child's plaything designed purely for whimsy based upon the surrealism of absurd size disparity. Imagine a real world where birds are scaled equally to humans. That's a nightmare I certainly don't want to live through. The toy possesses a simple haunting kinetic movement that is difficult to resist watching. It is highly unusual to find a large American tin toy in such terrific condition. Bernard Barenholtz would have absolutely loved it for his collection.
