The example with lap jointed circular handles is comprised of 30 links with no swivel or other mechanism to eliminate kinks, the total length is approximately 390 inches.
The example with oval handles of iron and brass is comprised of 50 links and measures 369 inches.
Neither has a swivel joint or tally tag.
Measurements of 369 and 384 inches in length.
Provenance: The estate of a collector active in Historical Re-enactment, Surveying the Frontier, Scientific Instruments. Lewis and Clark.
