On the reverse bears the inscription 'This was painted by a Japanese artist in 1923 while sitting on the lower of the house - 528 The Peek ('172' at that time) in Coombe Road (joining Magazine gap to Wancahi sap.) The view is looking over aberdeen + Apleichau Island to Lantau + some of the little islands (where Michael Wright was taken prisoner by the Japanese in 1941.) I was born in this house on 25 March 1919 - Kathleen Smart - née Wright.' with further annotation by the same hand.

The work appears to be in good colour. There is signs acidification visible mainly to the upper half of the composition and a few spots of foxing. There is some mount staining around the four edges probably from a previous mount, not visible when framed. The sheet slightly undulates throughout. The sheet has been laid to paper in three corners, the paper is hinged to the mount with tape along the top edge.
