Wallace O. Bassford
Florida, Missouri, 1900-1998
Impressionist depiction of two men and a dog conversing beside a white picket fence in front of rows of houses and tall trees. Bassford studied at the School of Fine Arts of Washington University in St. Louis under the guidance of Edmund Wuerpel and Fred Green Carpenter. For a time, Bassford drew political cartoons for the St. Louis Times and painted landscapes of the Cape Cod area, and portraits of Missouri politicians at the beginning of his career. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Metropolitan Museum, and the Carnegie Institute, among others.
