Franklin Mint, The Royal Kitten of Prosperity, 1988, by Yuki Morioka. Hand-decorated with 24 karat gold. Korean potter, Boku Hei, discovered a white clay at Kirishima Mountain and began to produce white Satsuma wares. This style of Satsuma was highly prized, especially by Westerners, and Satsuma, to many the world over, is associated almost exclusively with beautiful fine white porcelain with ornamentations of brilliantly colored enamels and gilt. In the tradition of this Satsuma style, internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Yuki Morioka has created The Royal Kitten of Prosperity. The cat is a beloved creature and a popular motif in Japan, for it is believed to bring prosperity and good fortune.
