Native American, Western United States, Northern Plains, Sioux tribe, ca. 19th century CE. A dramatic strand of over a hundred glass trade beads and 38 coyote teeth strung on a leather cord as a necklace. The beads are red and cobalt blue, a type of Venetian white heart glass, characterized by a white core and an exterior of a different hue. Each bead is spherical and are symmetrically arranged in groups of three around the teeth. Each tooth is a canine and hand drilled at the root for suspension. The trade beads originated in Europe and were brought to North America to barter with Native American tribes throughout the 1800s. The necklace is displayed in a modern Riker case with a felt backing. Size of strand doubled: 14.5" L (36.8 cm); teeth: 1.5" L x 0.25" W (3.8 cm x 0.6 cm); case: 16.25" L x 12.25" W (41.3 cm x 31.1 cm)

One tooth is loose and not attached with a loss to piercing on the tip. Active flaking and chipping to teeth. Leather cord and glass beads are intact, but leather tip is fraying. Displayed in modern Riker case. Not recommended for wearing.
