Description
Large Lladro of Don Quixote Dreaming by Salvador Debon
This elegant Lladro sclupture entitled "Don Quijote Ensonador" was realized by the sculptor Salvador Debón in Spain, circa 1980. It features the title character from the epic novel by Miguel de Cervantes. The piece- translated to Don Quijote- offers the novel's main character sitting on two large folios supporting his head with one arm. He wears Classic 17th century Spanish garb (a flowing white collared shirt, cafe au lait vest and dove gray dress shoes). His eyes are closed, and he dons a cascading beard and pensive expression. The title is perhaps an allusion to Don Quixote's chronic insomnia ("Don Quixote did not sleep too much at all during the night, thinking about his lady Dulcinea"). This refined sculpture would be a winning acquisition for those with an avid interest in Classic literature, as well as collectors of first rate modernist sculptures (and exquisite objects, in general). The piece is in excellent vintage condition. It is signed "Lladro" on the base.
DIMENSIONS : Height 16.75 inch / 43 cm
Length 14.50 inch / 26,5 cm
Depth 7 inch / 18 cm
