Number 192 for 20 shares to J Moore trustee. Signed by secretary J. B. Moore (unscrupulous) and Richard Hornfray (Get rich for doing nothing president). Manuel San Pedro was the scam artist superintendent. Datelined San Francisco 1876. Incorporated April 23, 1875.Not cancelled. AL Bancroft printer. Location at Spanish Belt Mining District, Nye County, Nevada. Six assessment stamps on reverse. Red color in center of stock. Corners have very small dog ears. Very nice condition. Manuel San Pedro claimed, "The South Barcelona continues to give up precious metals as liberally as at any time since the ore body was found." No reality here! The Barcelona District (as in our cert.) is situated 7 miles from Belmont, between Belmont and Manhattan. The district is located on the southeastern side of Shoshone Mountain and includes the area at the head of Silver Creek, all of Antone Canyon, and extends east to include the Corcoran Canyon area. Originally named the Spanish Belt district when it was organized in 1875 and separated from the Philadelphia district which included both the present Belmont and Barcelona districts. Includes historical background on Manuel San Pedro and the mining company.
