Description
Pass no. 65, issued to JB Frawley, dist. passenger agent for Union Pacific Railroad. Signed by vice-president/general manager CT Bliss, son of Tahoe & Comstock lumber baron DL Bliss. Endorsed on the back by Hawley. Black print on green cardstock. Some smudges. This railroad and steamer company was the brainchild of DL Bliss who, after making his fortune logging Tahoe for the Comstock, saw that Tahoe could become a world-class tourist destination. He incorporated the company in 1898 and finished the railroad in 1900. He built the Tahoe Tavern and re-used steamers from the logging business. The railroad ran from Truckee to the pier at Tahoe City, where passengers got off the train and boarded the company's steamers to visit locations around the lake. DL Bliss died in 1907. His children continued the business. It was leased to Southern Pacific in 1925.
