$1,000 Bond issued in 1869. Inc. in South Carolina. Nice revenue stamp in orange at the center. Allegorical figures at the corners. Large hole cut cancels including large cuts thru signatures. Endorsed on the back by Henry Clews as one of the Trustees. Henry Clews (August 14, 1834 - January 31, 1923) was a British-American financier and author. In 1877, he started Henry Clews & Company, a member of the New York Stock Exchange, which made him enormously wealthy (wikipedia). View photos.
