Description

Raymon Elozua (German/American, b. 1947), Modernist Pottery Center Bowl

1977, polychrome glazed ceramic center bowl, with sgraffito, pierced, and textured elements, artist pottery stamp with date to underside.
5 1/4 x 18 3/8 x 18 in.
Initially making clay vessels, Raymon Elozua's work progressed to ceramic sculpture and deconstructed vessel objects. Disintegration and industrial decay is a recurring theme in Elozua's work, which was influenced by his childhood in industrial south Chicago. In the 1980's, Raymon was an instructor at both New York University and Pratt Institute School of Art and Design.

Elozua's work is held in many prestigious public collections and museums around the United States, including: Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Los Angeles, California; The Mint Museum, Charlotte, North Carolina; Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut; among many others.
