Description
First half 19thC, this Cumberland-Action dining table was hand built in a very similar style to Thomas Constantine & Co., who made furniture in NYC for the U.S. Capitol, among other local DC clients. Most of these are attributed to John and/or Thomas Seymour, Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1810, however this example has more NYC style elements like banded column legs, instead of fluted, plus reeded edges. For a similar example, refer to the excellent Chipstone Foundation website (combine Chipstone and Constantine). Photos were made without all leaves inserted. One drop is somewhat slightly warped, otherwise fine with light scratches on one leaf. This is a museum piece, a very well-made piece of high style early 19thC American furniture, in fine original condition. 84.5 inches with drops up, without leaves in. 126 inches long with all leaves in.
