An unusual antique carved marble and polychrome marble Brahmin bull. Nicely carved with skillfully applied pigment. Likely Indian subcontinent in origin and possibly 19th century. The work is unsigned. H 7 3/4: x W 4 1/2" x D 10" Provenance: From the estate collection of John Stage. Mr. Stage was a well regarded and widely known photojournalist. His work was used in many prominent publications from the 1950's onwards. The following provided courtesy of the Stage Family. As a freelance photojournalist for 38 years, assignments from magazines (Holiday, Life, Look, National Geographic, Travel & Leisure, Town & Country), book publishers and occasional advertising agencies took him to all 50 states and more than 100 foreign countries.
