Description
Grand Tour bronze Sienna marble inkwell, c1875
15.75"W x 8.75"D x 9.5"H
Davids notes: a magnificent example of what Americans bought in Italy and brought back to NYC in the 1880-1920 time period. The Sienna marble was primarily excavated from the mountains of Montagnola Senese in Italy, and was desired and expensive whenever it was sold. The maker of this inkwell in the 19th century teamed up with a fine bronze caster, to make a handsome inkwell of period delight.
