Item Details
Description
Offered in this lot is a signed polychrome pottery jar by Hopi Irma David from 1993. Irma David is the sister of well-known Hopi artist Neil David Sr. From Polacca, at First Mesa, Irma is a traditionalist in every sense. This Hopi Pottery Jar is handmade of natural clay indigenous to the area and decorated using mineral stone paint. This wonderful jar's design is bold polychrome geometric motifs on a white burnished slip glaze; further detailed, the piece has a split and decorated rim. Firing in traditional Hopi methods adds to the character of the pots and plates by providing "blush marks" or "fire clouds." These are darker areas on the ceramics. The jar measures 4 3/4" tall and 18" around, with a 2 3/4" opening. The pot is in very good condition, with no obvious signs of damage.
