Description
For your consideration in this lot is an original Chimayo Material jacket. These jackets and coats were made in Santa Fe\, New Mexico. Southwest Arts & Crafts was a merchandise store established in Santa Fe in 1916 by the trader Julius Gans, under the auspices of the United Indian Trader's Association. Beginning in 1920, Gans employed many in-house Native American artisans to make objects for his shop. The label on this jacket says it is made from handwoven wool and is a size 40. The grey wool is flecked with cream, red, and turquoise blue. The jacket has bands of cream, red, black, and turquoise. On the front of the jacket are five silver, half-round, stamped concho buttons. The jacket is in good condition, with no obvious signs of damage or wear. The jacket measures 17" across the back of the shoulders and 26" long sleeves.
