Ancient Near East, the Levant, Syro-Hittite culture, ca. late 3rd to early 2nd millennium BCE. A hand-built pottery bull figure bearing a slender, streamlined body standing atop a quartet of nubbin legs. The protruding triangular head features a thick snout and a pair of impressed eyes beneath the bases of a pair of horns, and atop the hind quarters is a tail that curves around one side as if swatting away flies or other insects. The minimalist design of this figure suggests that this was meant as a child's toy or a votive offering for a temple. Size: 6.2" L x 2.1" W x 2.3" H (15.7 cm x 5.3 cm x 5.8 cm); 4.375" H (11.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private collection of actor Anthony Quinn and his wife Katherine, Bristol, Rhode Island, USA acquired prior to 2000
