An Aboriginal Canadian / Inuit carved black stone (with traces of pyrite visible on underside) head with what appears to be a child, but might be a symbolic second head e.g. transformation figure. The work is quite appealing and is a good example of ethnographic art. It is not visibly signed. Likely acquired in Canada in the 1970's/1980's Measures: H 7 1/2" x W 5 1/4" x D 7 1/2" Provenance: From the estate collection of John Stage. Mr. Stage was a well regarded and widely known photojournalist. His work was used in many prominent publications from the 1950's onwards. The following provided courtesy of the Stage Family.
