It has been backed with tissue paper. On top of the tissue paper, it has been lined with an additional layer of reinforcement all aroung the perimeter and along the centerfold. The cnter and edge layer does not appear to be necessary by any modern standard of conservation. The materials used test as acid free and the additional reinforcement used soulable adhesive and could easily be removed by a qualified restorer.Additional Information: Blaeu's map of America is a cornerstone of any collection of early maps of the Americas. Blaeu is an important figure in the Dutch Golden Age of Cartography and arguably the greatest mapmaker in history. This example has Dutch text on the verso and appears to the from the 1642 version of the Atlas Major. Across the top are views of nine major cities. Down the sides are ten illustrations of inhabitants in native costume. Sailing ships and sea monsters decorate the oceans. This is a chance to own one of the finest maps of the Americas for far less than normal retail.
