Description
Mystery Artist (American, 18th Century to Early 19th Century). Original antique oil painting on canvas. A portrait of a gentleman, possibly a clergyman: he wears a powdered wig, similar to the one worn by Benjamin Franklin in the famous 1767 portrait by David Martin; and holds a quill pen, indicating the subject was a man of letters. Painted in the style of the American School of the Early National Era. No apparent signature. Having vintage to antique auction or gallery sticker labels affixed to verso. Presented in a fabric matte border and displayed in an ornate gilt frame. Work Size: 29.25 x 23.5 in.
