Description
Antique English "Mr. Punch" Puppet, C.1880-1890. Wood, pigment, cloth and glass eyes. Mr. Punch has roots in 16th-century Italian Commedia dell'Arte, derived from the Neapolitan stock character named Pulcinella. His first recorded appearance in England was in 1662, when he began to appear in puppet shows along side his wife Judy. Size: 14'' x 7'' x 5'' (36 x 18 x 13 cm). Property from the Jim and Kit Horne Collection.
