Mount Patawerta, Flinders Ranges
Signed and dated "HANS HEYSEN/19..." l.r., titled, signed, and dated "No. 85 Mount Patawerta./Flinders Ranges/1940/Hans Heysen" on a handwritten paper label affixed to the Masonite frame backing.
Graphite, charcoal, and crayon on paper, sight size 11 7/8 x 15 1/2 in. (30.5 x 39.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Minor mat burn, not examined out of frame.

Provenance: A Massachusetts estate.

N.B. This landscape shows an area of the Heysen Trail, named after the artist Sir Hans Heysen, particularly recognized for his watercolors of the Australian bush and his strong associations with both the Mount Lofty and Flinders Ranges. His house, “The Cedars,“ is located near Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. The Heysen Trail is the longest dedicated walking trail in Australia, extending almost 750 miles from Cape Jervis to the Parachilna Gorge, Flinders Ranges, South Australia.
