Description

A pair of antique copper plate etchings on one piece of laid paper. The first: The Poacher Poacher Cleaning His Gun after the original oil painting by Jean Alphonse Roehn (1799-1864); engraved by Gustave Greux ( French, 1838-1919); signed in the plate lower right and left. Jean Alphonse Roehn (1799-1864) was a French artist, master of genre painting, portrait painter, caricaturist, engraver, teacher. The second: Two cattle drinking from a pond near a fence in the foreground at left; cottages on the bank in the middle ground, hills in background; illustration to The Portfolio of 1873; circa 1873; print made by Philip Gilbert Hamerton (1834-1894), a British artist, art critic, and author. He was a keen advocate of contemporary printmaking and most of his writings concern the graphic arts. He was an important theorist of the English Etching Revival; signed in the plate lower left. Condition
Overall good antique condition. Signs of age and wear. Yellowing, stains, spots, damage at the edges and on the corners. Refer to photos. Sold As Is.
