BIOGRAPHY:
James Pichette, brother of the poet Henri Pichette, is a French painter associated with the informal art movement.As a result of the war he was forced to stay in the high Savoy mountains for a long time. It was there, in 1942, that he began to paint figurative paintings. He returned to his native province and settled in Aigurande in 1943. Contacts with the Resistance, he participated in parachute drops. After the liberation of Paris, he returned to the capital.In 1947, he exhibited for the first time at the Salon des surindependants. The same year, he left for Italy and spent several months in Rome . He worked in the CinecittГ studios, where he produced his first abstract works.He exhibited new realities at the Salon in 1950.In 1952, he obtained a scholarship for the Netherlands and became a resident of Maison Descartes, in Amsterdam.The October Salon (1952-1953) by Charles Estienne leads the lyrical abstract offensive In which Huguette Arthur Bertrand also participates by his side.Living in New York in 1960, he developed a passion for jazz, and made friends with great jazz musicians. Then, back in France, he then collaborated on various jazz-painting experiments, including the first free jazz festival held in Bobino in January 1967.He produced his first monumental work in Vitry-sur-Seine, in 1971.In 1976, James Pichette taught at the National School of Decorative Art in Nice. He exhibits regularly at the Salon des grands et jeunes today and at the Salon de May.The circle first appeared in 1970. In 1985, it is the beginning of the Jazz space, a topic which occupies a long time in his painting.James Pichette has also made ceramics, tapestries, furniture and decorative objects.
